Who Is Eligible

The Fund provides an Abortion Benefit for a female employee if she is a covered member at the time the abortion is performed. The benefit is also payable to a male employee who is a covered member at the time of his wife/domestic partner’s abortion. 

What Is The Benefit

The benefit is payable to a maximum of $200 for out of pocket expenses not covered by a member’s insurance. However, if both members are covered, the Fund will pay to a maximum of $400 for such out of pocket expenses. In no event will the Fund payment exceed the out of pocket expenses incurred.

This benefit is payable only for an abortion performed by a licensed physician, and provides coverage toward such expenses as medical facility, hospital and doctor services.

How To Obtain The Benefit

Welfare Fund’s Multi Benefit Claim Form is used for the Abortion Benefit.

This form is available at the Welfare Fund Office, and for your convenience claim forms are often available through the Union delegate at your work location or at the Welfare Fund’s website at www.mightyunionfunds.org

To apply for the benefit, have the appropriate portion of the claim form completed by the physician, hospital or medical facility cashier (or you may attach the original bills and/or receipts indicating the abortion charges). Complete your portion of the claim form and forward it to the Funds office.
